A Pronkmuur doesn’t have to consist solely of images; you can also add extra layers with display cases, shelves with objects, or an integrated screen. A good example is a wall filled with family portraits combined with a historical overview of the company. If you have multiple walls available, you can fill them with a series of related images that align with your brand values.

The trick is to unearth the gems from an archive and showcase them in a “Pronkmuur.” For the Voerman Museum, for example, we depicted the life story of Jan Voerman Sr. through a clear timeline and a playful wall of images chronicling his life. This display features original archival documents, paintings, and historical photographs. This creates a clear and accessible overview of his life and development at a glance.

Committed and Pioneering: Women at the University of Amsterdam
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) aims to highlight ten prominent women from history who are inextricably linked to the UvA. Through their research and work, they have had a significant impact on society.
The exhibition is intended to be a powerful statement that shows the outside world just how proud the UvA is to have these women associated with the institution.
We chose a prominent location: the large, white walls in the café of the Allard Pierson Museum. This museum café is part of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and is located in the research building. The café is visited daily by both visitors and UvA staff. Until then, no exhibition had ever been held there.
To reinforce the feeling of a manifesto, we opted for a stencil-like visual style in two bold colors: blue and red.
The exhibition was so well received that it created a domino effect. Various departments at the UvA also wanted to host the exhibition at their own locations. So we adapted the design to fit the available space at each location, ensuring that the exhibition looked its best wherever it was displayed.
